History of Interpretation

The most important and sophisticated place to learn about the meaning of Quranic verses is to read a tafseer. Tafseer is known as the interpretation of the Quran and holds commentary on the verses by different scholars who through extensive research have determined where, when and why the verses were revealed when they were. In short it can be said that tafseer provides context to the knowledge held within the Quran. Whereas the Quran itself does not delve too much into the dates and histories of the past, a tafseer fulfills that purpose. Online Quran classes are really popular nowadays and people gain the services of an online Quran tutor to gain knowledge about the Quran. There are also a lot of expert scholars that are today providing their services and filling their obligations through online Quran teaching. Through online Quran teaching and online Quran classes, online Quran tutor and teachers help people in understanding what the Quran is actually talking about.

The Methodology of Tafseer

The companions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) were taught by him, to seek all the guidance that they needed and the interpretation of the Quran from the Quran and the traditions, explanations and sayings of the Prophet (SAW) and from their own understanding of the language of the Quran. As time went by and the Prophet (SAW) no longer remained among the people, the population and especially the newly reverted depended on the Quran itself and the companions to seek guidance and interpretation. The Companions of the Prophet (SAW) would teach their own students and the general people the circumstances and the contexts in which verses were revealed.  The companions would also explain certain words whose meanings were not clear to those who converted later and especially those who were non-Arabs. This continued down the years, until it was in the time of the third generation after the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that the different narrations were gathered and accumulated into tafseers.
