Guidance in Cyber Space Learning Islam in the Digital Age
“And how will you disbelieve (now) while you are (fortunate) ones to whom the Verses of Allah are recited, and the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) is (himself) present among you? And whoever holds fast to (the Embrace of) Allah is most surely guided to the straight path.”
(Surah A’l-Imran 3, Ayah101)
Allah (SWT) revealed the Quran to His final messenger Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a mercy for mankind. The Quran is a special kind of book that has recorded in it a detailed layout on how to live a prosperous and happy life. The Quran teaches humanity by the stories of those who had come before them and inform of their errors and advises humans not to make the same mistakes and go down the path of the strayed. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also became a fountain of knowledge and people used to travel from far away to learn what they could. As the time of the Prophets passed, the companions became the learned of the Muslims, and carried on the teachings of Islam.
In the old days people who needed to learn about Islam usually had to travel hundreds of miles to different locals in the world to visit the great libraries or scholars and earn their knowledge. In this day and age, long travels are no longer required to learn the Quran or hadiths. In fact thanks to modern technology, those who did not use to have such religious facilities in their areas can now learn about Islam from the comfort of their homes at their convenience. This is due to the many online Islamic courses that online schools provide now. Be it a Tafseer-e-Quran course or if a person wants to learn classical Arabic, almost everything about the religion can now be learned even by those who are physically deprived of mosques and institutes. However since learning about the religion has become so easy through online Islamic courses, something to think about is that this generation of the Muslims and the ones that come after us have more of a responsibility to spread the message since we have it available to us through easy means.
